Adventure Sports in Ella Sri lanka

Ella is in essence a gap formed in a mountain range, very famous hot spot with the ardent adventure tourist with it myriad of adventure trails and what a beautiful sight it presents to the tired mind after a long journey. On one side the dark mountain tops with rutted cliffs falls from dizzying heights into out of site gorges where the turbulent yet infant stream of kirindi oya leaps and gambols among the rocks, on the other side green hills dotted with trees falls more gently bending their shaggy side to long winding valleys, creating a magnificent vistas around you.

Look out for the following peaks Chimney-pot hill to the East, Kataragama peak to your West and in the distance straight down your nose is Yala National park until it end in the pale blue waters of the Indian Ocean.

Adventure sports in Kitulgala, Sri Lanka

A sleepy little hamlet in the foothills of the central plains, with one of the main rivers of Sri Lanka “The Kelani” flowing through the town wide and snappy, boast as one of the best adventure venues in Sri Lanka. Kitulgala is more famous as the location of “The Bridge on the river Kwai” acclaimed for winning no less than 07 academy awards in 1957 directed by David Lean.

Today the thrill seekers and the adventurous gather in Kitulgala to enjoy White Water Rafting or camping by a ravine or stream of which many are abound, along with many other opportunities whether they are adventure or leisure oriented.

This part of the river is speckled with rapids from class 1 to 3.5 during the rainy season and with the exception of the very smallest kids, everyone can enjoy a ride of their life adorned with life jackets and other safety gear. The tributaries of Kalani has an ample supply of small to medium scale waterfalls within this region making a paradise for waterfall abseiling, confidence jumps from a selected waterfall which are deemed safe by our experts and in ascending height till you reach your limit.

Take a river expedition down “Kelani” in true Livingston style minus the rifle, but with all necessary gear and food and have a picnic where you choose. Once you reach Avissawela, a town about 15 km away from starting point, let us take you back to your lodge/camp in the comfort of a mini bus.

Those of you who are captivated by rain forest trekking with a guide inside a unspoiled tropical rain forest and for a few die hard campers, the ultimate falling-water camp site within the rainforest located on the edge of a waterfall, note that this is not for the faint of heart, once the sunsets you are in a tropical evergreen jungle, with all that is abound in a nocturnal surroundings, with the noise of the falling-water next to your camp.

Hot air Ballooning

Ballooning in the Cultural Triangle

Soar high in the sky from 500 feet to 2000 feet above untouched wilderness, rock temples and ancient ruins in the Cultural Triangle. A Hot Air Ballooning trip in Sri Lanka is a once-in-a- lifetime experience never to be forgotten!

The Cultural Triangle Ballooning trip starts from the Habarana/Sigiriya / Dambulla area. A typical flight would start sometime after dawn and last for approximately one hour – depending on the prevailing winds. The exact route of a Hot Air Ballooning flight cannot be predicted as the wind direction must be followed. Ballooning trips are offered daily throughout the season from November to April when the winds are light and the sky at its bluest.

The hot air balloon adventure lasts approximately 2.5 – 3 hours, starting with the preparation and inflation of the balloon at the takeoff site. There is a briefing before takeoff, and the flight itself. The take-off is in the morning soon after dawn. In the event we arrange the pickup, the exact time of pick up will confirmed at 5-8 pm the day before the intended flight. Our support vehicle also always follows the flight.

NOTE: A full refund is offered if the flight has to be cancelled due to poor weather.

Ballooning in the Southern Region Balloon take off point being 1.5 hrs from the capital city, we offer a unique view of the Sothern country site. Weather permitted, the coast could be seen on the horizon offering a view that none can match.

The Southern region Ballooning trip starts from the Galle or Ahungalla areas as Pick up points. A typical flight would start sometime after dawn and last for approximately one hour – depending on the prevailing winds. The exact route of a Hot Air Ballooning flight cannot be predicted as the wind direction must be followed. Ballooning trips are offered daily throughout the season from November to April when the winds are light and the sky at its bluest.
